Concerns over a report that someone had a gun on a Salem School bus Friday morning were put to rest after police investigated.
According to a Police Department Facebook post, officers were alerted to a potential safety concern involving a possible firearm on school property.
Superintendent Sean Kirkland tells 21 News that it turned out that a Southeast Elementary kindergarten student had brought a toy gun on the school bus in his backpack.
The Facebook post says that all students and staff are safe, and there was no threat to the school community.
Kirkland told 21 News that in today’s environment, you can’t be too careful.
