A road in Northern Trumbull County was temporarily shut down after a vehicle slid into a pond in Southington Township.

Dispatchers got a call shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday about a car in a pond along the 4200 block of Hoffman Norton Road.

When First Responders and State Troopers arrived, they found the driver had climbed out of the submerged car. Only the tail lights could be seen above the frigid water.

The driver, who wasn't injured, told 21 News that when his Lincoln MKZ slid into the pond, his smartwatch alerted his girlfriend about his location.

As the car filled with water, he climbed through the sunroof and got to safety.
