Howland announced that senior Ava Yannucci has committed to continuing her education and playing collegiate soccer at Fairmont State University next fall.

A four-year letterman for the Howland Tigers, Ava’s journey through high school soccer has been nothing short of exceptional. From her freshman year, her talent and leadership on the field were undeniable. She led the team in both points and goals scored as a freshman, a feat she would replicate in her sophomore and junior years while competing in Division 1. In her junior and senior seasons, Ava expanded her impact, leading the team in both points and assists, while more than tripling her assist total from her earlier years.

Head coach Greg Mitchell praised Ava’s unmatched skill, saying, “It is not very often that a program has the benefit of having a player of Ava’s caliber. Her decision-making, soccer IQ, and selflessness on the field set her apart from others. She doesn’t just score goals—she’s an incredible playmaker who makes everyone around her better.”

Ava’s impressive statistics and leadership abilities have earned her numerous accolades throughout her high school career. She was named Division One Player of the Year in 2022 and Division 3 Player of the Year in 2024. Additionally, she received the AAC Conference Player of the Year award in both her junior and senior years. Ava played a key role in her team’s success, helping lead the Tigers to two conference championships, including an undefeated 8-0-0 record in league play her senior year and an overall record of 16-3.

“Ava’s presence on the field and her ability to involve her teammates were instrumental in our success,” Coach Mitchell continued. “As a senior captain, her leadership was evident, and she earned the respect and admiration of her teammates. Ava’s determination and example have been a huge part of the Howland Tigers’ recent success.”

Off the field, Ava has excelled academically, maintaining a 4.238 GPA and receiving the Senior Academic Award by the Mahoning Valley High School Soccer Coaches Association for students with a GPA of 3.7 or higher. Her dedication to both athletics and academics is a testament to her work ethic and discipline.

“We are extremely proud of Ava and all she has accomplished as a student-athlete,” Coach Mitchell added. “She is a true leader, and I have no doubt that she will continue to thrive at Fairmont State University. We wish Ava and her family all the best as she takes the next step in her academic and athletic journey.”
