A Thanksgiving tradition in Warren is still going strong after over four-and-a-half decades.

The Warren Kiwanis Club held its 46th Annual Turkey Trot Race at Kent State University's Trumbull County Campus Thanksgiving morning. The race consisted of a kids run, a dog parade, a two-mile walk and run and a five-mile run.

All these events support fundraising efforts for the Kiwanis Club. Last year, the club was able to raise nearly $16,000. This year's goal is $20,000.

The funds are used to provide scholarships to area high school students, as well as support the activities and efforts of many other local organizations.

21 News caught up with race director Ted Rupe who gave us a brief history of the event.

"[The race] was started as a fitness thing back in the 70s when everyone was in the jogging phase and it just stayed with it for now 46 years. It's a wonderful event," Rupe said.

The top three overall finishers in the five-mile run received cash prizes.
