PennDOT, reminding drivers to drive sober and safely on Blackout Wednesday
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is reminding drivers to drive sober and practice road safety ahead of the holiday season.
The night before Thanksgiving, otherwise known as "Blackout Wednesday," is considered one of the largest drinking days of the year. That's why PennDOT is reminding drivers to drink responsibly and drive responsibly.
A driver is considered impaired if their blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is .08 or higher. PennDOT is reminding drivers that drugs including prescription medications can impact their ability to drive as well.
Additionally, drivers are reminded to wear their seatbelts each time they enter a vehicle. Pennsylvania law requires drivers, front seat passengers and any occupant under 18 to wear their seatbelt at all times.
Children under age four must properly be secured in an approved child safety seat, and children under age two must ride in a rear-facing car seat until they outgrow the maximum weight and height limits.
Booster seats are required for children age four to eight years old.
