A 34-year-old Mineral Ridge man and former Akron police officer was sentenced to 24 to 28 years in prison Tuesday for sexually oriented material involving a minor.

Geoffrey Parker pled guilty plea in late October in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to three counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, three counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, one count of gross sexual imposition and one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor.

Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Ronald J. Rice sentenced consecutive sentences, declaring Parker a Tier 2 sexual offender. After his release from prison, Parker will have to register twice per year as sex offender for the next 25 years.

“I am deeply disturbed that you went from a police officer to criminal convict in one cause. You ruined your family and tarnished your reputation just to fulfill a perverted sexual desire,” Rice said before sentencing Parker.

Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman called Parker a “wolf in sheep’s clothing,” who preyed on children, betraying his badge and uniform.

Police told 21 News Parker took a nude photo of a four-year-old girl in Weathersfield Township in Trumbull County and sent it to an online chatroom app in August. From there, the image was sent to BCI, who was able to trace it back to Parker. Parker was arrested at the Akron Police Department two days later.

Parker was also convicted of taking nude images of himself with young children.
