YNDC was awarded $2.54 million dollars from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati's Affordable Housing Program for home repairs, new builds and down payment assistance.

"It's definitely worth a phone call to see if you're eligible or to start looking into it," said Ian Beniston, Executive Director of the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation. "I'd encourage everyone to act now to at least start getting information."

Through a partnership with Premiere Bank, $1,500,000 will support home repair to 150 units.

"Those are homes that are occupied by low to moderate-income homeowners," Beniston explained. "So there are eligibility requirements."

Also partnering with Premiere, $336k will be used to build a total of 6 new apartment units in the city. YNDC has not located where the units would be erected.

"Those are units that we'll build from the ground up," he explained. "Probably in the spring, we'll break ground on those."

While partnering with Huntington Bank, $705,000 will support down payment assistance of up to $18,000 per unit to 30 homebuyers around town.

"When someone's buying a house, they'll be able to apply, come through our housing program and if they go through Huntington Bank, to get their mortgage, they could  receive up to $18k of down payment assistance towards the purchase of their house."

Working to improve housing in the city as these grants will be available for hundreds whose income qualifies if you contact their office.

If you believe you would qualify for these programs, just contact YNDC at (330) 480-0423. The group believes the new units should be up and running by next fall.
