With preparations for the holiday season getting into gear, the Bazetta Township Fire Department is anticipating a large uptick in online orders and package deliveries.

That's why the department is launching its safe package delivery program for its residents. This service is absolutely free.

In a post on the Bazetta Township Fire Department's Facebook page, the department says the holiday season sees an increase in not only package deliveries, but package thefts.

"When packages sit on porches or near front doors unattended it can be an invitation to thieves. In effort to prevent your packages from being stolen, we are offering you a safe way to have your packages delivered," the post reads.

The department will offer this service between December 1 and December 23. Packages will be delivered to the fire station with residents being able to pick them up as needed.

In order to participate in this program, you must order a package under your name with the Bazetta Township Fire Department's address (3000 Warren-Meadville Rd Cortland, OH 44410).

The department asks that these packages weigh less than 50 pounds and not require a signature.

From there, you must call the department between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and give your name, contact information and the estimated arrival date for your package.

When picking up your package, you must bring a valid ID and a proof of purchase on the package. Parents picking up a package for their children must provide proof of guardianship and/or the child's identification.

You can pick up your packages between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday or between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturdays. Package pickup is not available on Sundays.

In the event that you go to the fire station during the above listed hours and no one is available, crews are likely responding to a call and someone will usually be back shortly.
