The Mahoning County Land Bank and Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation plan to break ground Thursday on the construction of six new single-family homes on Youngstown’s Southside.

The 1,475-square-foot homes are being built along Mineral Springs Avenue, just west of the Youngstown Playhouse between Glenwood Avenue and Volney Road.

Each will have three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and a two-car garage. They are expected to be listed for sale for no more than $180,000 and will include a 15-year property tax abatement.

The project is funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Development's Welcome Home Ohio program. Farmers National Bank is providing construction financing, and Joe Koch Construction is the builder.

The land bank and YNDC have been working to assemble vacant lots in the area for the past decade. The project also has support from the City of Youngstown, The Raymond John Wean Foundation, and the Glenwood Neighbors Business Association.
