A Cleveland man has been jailed after police say he assaulted a Campbell police officer, as well as a K9 during a traffic stop on Monday.

According to a police report, a Campbell police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle going the wrong way down a one-way street shortly before 2:30 Monday morning.

Police spoke to the driver whose driving privileges were suspended according to the report.

As the officer was writing Cox a ticket, police say they saw the passenger side door open and saw a male, later identified as 35-year-old Domonick Fowler of Cleveland.

Police say Fowler gave officers a false social security number when asked for his identity, and when officers threatened to arrest him if he didn't identify himself, he started running away.

At one point, police say, Fowler fell to the ground and the officer tried to handcuff him, but he managed to get away while pushing and pulling on the officer followed by running into a wooded area according to the report.

A K9 was then called to search for Fowler, who was eventually found in the woods. After several warnings, police sent the K9 to subdue Fowler. Police say Fowler tried to get the K9 off of him by grabbing him by the snout.

Eventually, Fowler was placed in handcuffs and taken to the Mahoning County Jail. He was charged with assault, falsification, assault on a police dog, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned on Tuesday and is due back in court November 26.

Meanwhile, the driver was given a ticket for driving the wrong way on a one-way street, but no criminal charges appear to have been filed against her.
