Detectives are hoping security video and eyewitnesses can help them find whoever shot a man driving along Southern Boulevard Sunday afternoon.

A Boardman Police Officer heard someone shouting “Help. I’ve been shot” near Akron Children’s Hospital just after noon and found a man in a car with a chest wound.

The driver-side window was shattered and there were several bullet holes in the car.

As police applied pressure to the wound waiting for EMTS, the victim was able to tell the officer that he was driving to his aunt’s home when he was shot along Southern Boulevard near Maple Drive.

Police found shattered window glass near the shooting scene and talked to neighbors who reported hearing anywhere from four to six shots fired before a white pickup truck carrying construction equipment drove away toward Youngstown.

Before the victim was taken to the hospital, he told police he didn’t see who shot him and didn’t know why someone would do so.

Police did not have an update on the victim's condition as of Tuesday.
