A Farrell man faces a possible 15 to 50-year prison term when he is sentenced Tuesday afternoon for fatally shooting a teen in Sharon.

Curtis Coleman III, 21, pleaded guilty earlier in Common Pleas Court to third-degree murder and using a weapon with a defaced serial number for the January 2023 shooting death of 17-year-old Gavin D. Beighley.

According to police, Beighley was bicycling with a group of friends along East Budd Street near Dock Street when they tried to flee after someone fired shots at them.

Beighley collapsed and was taken to a hospital where he died.

Police interviewed Coleman’s younger brother who told them his older brother had fired shots at the bicyclists.

Investigators say they found six spent shell casings at the crime scene.

After he was arrested, police say Curtis Coleman admitted firing the shots at the bicyclists and hid the gun in his room.

Coleman told officers he learned of Beighley’s death from the news and wrote apologies to the victim's family and friends for the death of the teen.
