A church in Boardman celebrated its 95th anniversary with a special service Sunday morning.

Good Hope Lutheran Church at the corner of Homestead Drive and Southern Boulevard held a special worship service Sunday morning.

Pastor Robert Quaintance has been with the church for 33 years. He tells 21 News the theme for the anniversary service was celebrating the church's legacy with faith for the future.

Pastor Quaintance went on to say he's been on leave for the past five weeks due to heart surgery and all the preparations for the service was done by the laypeople.

"I've always believed that the strength of any congregation is always its laypeople, and that is certainly true of the heritage or the legacy of faith we have at good hope. Laypeople for 95 years who have sacrificed and given their time and themselves to make this church be a viable place where people can learn to know God and can serve God in the community," Quaintance said.

Quaintance said the church is always welcoming new people and looking to share its faith with others.
