Volunteer Bell ringers needed for annual Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign

It’s that time of year - soon you’ll start hearing those bells ringing and seeing red kettles pop up across the Mahoning Valley.

This year the Mahoning County Salvation Army is setting a goal of $105,000 dollars for the annual fundraiser. The money will go towards Christmas gifts for more than 700 children in the county and helping those in need year round.

“Your helping feed families, your helping cloth families, your helping to provide winter coats which we’re doing right now,” Jennifer Hanigosky, Director of programs and operations for the Mahoning County Salvation Army said. “It’s a really well rounded activity.”

And it’s not just monetary donations the Salvation Army is looking for. The people behind the kettle - bell ringers - are just as important.

“Every year people come back to me and say ‘I really enjoyed doing that.’ It blesses their heart to see the people who give, to hear the stories when they’re ringing the bell,” Paul Moore, Coordinator for the Mahoning County Salvation Army said.

This year it's even easier to sign up by going to RegisterToRing.com.

Whether you're going alone, as a family, or with a group bell ringing can be a unique way to see the good in people around this time of year.

“It’s not just about two hours of giving your time to say you did it, it's really about I invested my time so that somebody else maybe could get a little bit of burden relieved from them,” Hanigosky said.

The Mahoning County Salvation Army will be kicking off the 2024 campaign at the Southern Park Mall on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. They will have raffles and prizes for those who attend.

You’ll see most of the red kettles come out the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve Monday through Saturday.

If you don’t see a red kettle or want to donate early you can here.
