Suspect arrested after alleged robbery, foot-sniffing incident in Austintown

A person is recovering after a stabbing and attempted robbery at an Austintown business Friday morning.

The incident happened Friday morning at a business in the 5000 block of Mahoning Avenue when Austintown Police responded at 9:42 am to a call about a Toledo man who had walked out of a treatment facility on State Route 46 earlier week and stabbed a man before running away.

According to the police report,  the suspect - Nathaniel Frybarger, 31 years old - was in the bathroom of a business and spoke to the man inside, allegedly telling the victim before the stabbing that the facility needed better toilet paper.

The victim asked the man if he needed help when the suspect allegedly asked the man if he was making fun of him. The police report states that is when Frybarger allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded money.

The report stated that the victim explained he had no money, only a credit card. The report stated that Frybarger demanded the PIN number for the card while allegedly threatening to stab the victim.

According to the report, Frybarger then demanded the man remove his shoes and socks to smell the man's bare feet. The victim complied with the demand but was allegedly assaulted the victim by shoving him into a stall and cutting his hand with a knife.

The police report states that Frybarger had allegedly been to a nearby business a few days earlier and warned to stay away.

Officers responded to the area and found the suspect a few minutes later at the Westview Center on Mahoning Avenue.

The suspect was arrested and is charged with assault, aggravated robbery, theft, and resisting arrest.

The victim's injuries were determined to be minor.

Frybarger is expected to be arraigned next week on the charges.
