A company leasing space within Mercy Health St. Elizabeth in Youngstown will not have its lease renewed.

Select Specialty Hospital currently occupies a spot on the fourth floor of St. Elizabeth Hospital on Belmont Avenue.

The company treats conditions including cardiac conditions, neurologic conditions, brain injuries and pulmonary/ventilator liberation.

A Mercy Health spokesperson confirmed that Select Specialty Hospital's lease will expire on December 31.

Mercy Health plans to use the space to provide 17 additional hospital beds.

"Mercy Health – Youngstown is strategically focused on meeting the ever-changing health care needs of the Mahoning Valley and remains committed to providing high quality, compassionate care."

"We are appreciative of our partnership with Select Medical. However, after extensive review, it was decided not to renew Select Medical's lease, which is to expire on December 31, 2024.The space currently occupied by Select Specialty Hospital will be transformed to provide an additional 17 beds at Mercy Health - St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, giving our ministry the ability to accommodate additional patients."
