The former owner of a drug rehab facility in Austintown has filed a motion to expedite his request for travel.

According to the court filing, a motion to expedite was filed by former Braking Point Recovery Center owner Ryan Sheridan on Wednesday.

Sheridan requested to travel to Hawaii for a honeymoon with his future wife back in August. 21 News previously reported that Sheridan's request to go to the island was denied.

He filed a motion for the court to reconsider its decision on August 22.

Sheridan was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for crimes related to a health care fraud conspiracy where Medicaid was billed $48 million for drug and alcohol recovery services. Many of those services were not provided, medically necessary, lacked proper documentation or had other issues leaving them ineligible for reimbursement.

Sheridan was released from prison last November and remains under government supervision. He also needs court permission to travel outside of Northeast Ohio.

In the initial denial, Judge Benita Pearson said Ryan owes the government more than $24.4 million having only paid about $40,000 of the amount owed to the court.
