18-year-old arrested after 90 mph police chase through Youngstown

An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase Tuesday evening.

According to a police report from YPD, the chase began shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when officers saw a Jeep Cherokee matching the description of a stolen vehicle on Albert Street near Verona Avenue.

After the Jeep turned right without using a turn signal, officers attempted to pull the driver over, but the Jeep accelerated leading to a chase with speeds reaching up to 90 miles per hour.

During this chase, police say the driver ran several stop signs and red lights with no regard to other traffic in the area. Police ended the chase after it reached the City of Campbell.

Soon after this, police found the Jeep abandoned on Park Avenue near Richmond Avenue. Officers then deployed a drone to search for a suspect, which led them to Lincoln Park near a bridge.

That's where police found 18-year-old Seandale Thompkins, who they say was hiding behind a tree with key fobs to multiple vehicles including the Jeep. Police say he admitted to running from them saying "You guys chased me right after I woke up."

Police also say he admitted that the key fob belonged to the stolen Jeep saying the others were found on the ground.

Thompkins was placed under arrest for fleeing and eluding, obstructing official business and receiving stolen property. He was also issued traffic citations for driving under suspension and failure to obey traffic control devices.

Court records show Thompkins was arraigned on the two traffic charges Wednesday morning and the Youngstown Prosecutor's Office tells 21 News he will be arraigned on the criminal charges at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
