Millions of dollars are coming to the Mahoning Valley in order to prevent opioid-related deaths in all three Valley counties.
The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (MHAS) announced $100 million in federal grant funding to be used throughout the state to advance efforts to fight opioid addiction and prevent overdose deaths.
Several organizations across the Mahoning Valley will receive funds. These organizations include:
COLUMBIANA COUNTY:
- Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board ($171,314.65)
- The Counseling Center of Columbiana County ($53,091)
MAHONING COUNTY:
- Alta Care Group Inc. ($33,000)
- Broadway Recovery Services / Columbiana ($116,954.75)
- Coleman Health Services ($362,934.95)
- Family Recovery Center ($197,943.85)
- Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board ($1,136,680.98)
- Mercy Health Youngstown ($19,747.65)
- Meridian Health Care ($691,220.20)
- Urban Minority Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Outreach Program of Youngstown ($260,007.80)
TRUMBULL COUNTY:
- Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board ($482,942.92)
This funding is part of the fourth round of Ohio MHAS's State Opioid and Stimulant (SOS) Response grant funds awarded throughout the state.
In a press release, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is quoted stating Ohio's overdose deaths have substantially dropped two years in a row. In 2023, Ohio's 9% decline in overdose deaths outpaced the national 2% decrease.
"In Ohio, we've put into action one of the nation's most comprehensive and aggressive strategies for fighting substance use and preventing overdose deaths, and these SOS grants are a key piece of that puzzle," DeWine said.
