Man accused of firing stolen gun while exiting WRTA bus in Youngstown indicted on charges
Police arrested a man in Youngstown on November 9 after he allegedly fired a gun while exiting a WRTA bus.
According to a police report, the incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday in the area of Glenwood Avenue and West Woodland Avenue when a man identified as 49-year-old Alfred Cooper fired a gun while exiting the bus.
Cooper has been indicted on charges of having weapons under disability, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business as of December 12 by the Mahoning County Grand Jury.
The date of Cooper's next court appearance has not been decided on at this time.
The exact circumstances leading up to the gunfire are unknown as police were not able to locate the WRTA bus driver to speak with them.
Police found Cooper on Glenwood Avenue near West Warren Avenue where he began to flee on foot. He was shortly caught in the front yard of a home on Volney Avenue.
Police searched Cooper's bag and found a gun that turned out to have been stolen. Police also found ammo and an airsoft revolver in the bag. Because Cooper had previously been convicted of a felony, he is not allowed to possess a firearm.
Cooper was initially arrested and charged with having weapons under disability, carrying concealed weapons and obstructing official business.
