Campbell man accused of punching police officers, drawing anarchy symbol with blood
A Campbell man is facing several charges after police say he punched a Campbell police officer in the face and vandalized a holding cell with blood.
According to a police report, an officer saw a man, later identified as 32-year-old Maxwell Horne standing in the middle of Murray Avenue near Jefferson Street with his thumb elevated as if he was requesting a ride.
Police spoke with Horne who appeared to be intoxicated at the time according to the report. When asked about where he was going, police say Horne told them he was going to Penhale Avenue, but was walking in the wrong direction.
During this interaction, police say Horne repeatedly placed his hands in his pockets despite officers telling him not to. Police then placed him under arrest.
Police say while he was being handcuffed, Horne tried to pull away from officers and refused to get in the police cruiser. Police say at one point, Horne attempted to kick one of the officers on scene.
Once at the police department, Horne was placed in a holding cell where police say he was lying on the floor drawing an "Anarchy A" symbol with his own blood on a heater refusing to clean it off when asked.
Police say they tried to move Horne to another holding cell and he got into a fighting stance and started wrestling with officers at one point allegedly punching one officer in the cheek and another in the nose.
Eventually, police were able to take Horne to the ground and restrain him.
According to court records, Horne is facing charges of assault on a peace officer, vandalism, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, disorderly conduct and soliciting.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
