Austintown Grocery store and meat supplier honor veterans with donation and free meals
Marc’s grocery store and Kretschmar deli meats honored veterans with donations and free meals on Monday.
Representatives from the two companies presented a $5000 check to the Greater Cleveland Fisher House.
The fisher house provides housing to family members of Veterans being treated at the Cleveland Veteran Center at no cost. These families live 50 miles or further from Cleveland.
“We know that they will do better if they have their families with them,” Tara Camera, Executive Director for the Greater Cleveland Fisher House said. “To be able to take care of everything they need and to stay at the fisher house there are other veteran families like them staying with them so it’s almost like a home away from home.”
The fisher house can hold up to 32 families at a time. They also provide meals and wellness supplies while they stay.
“It’s just so important for that type of environment for them to feel safe and comfortable and for them to be able to heal,” Camera said.
Marc’s and Kretschmar also honored veterans and military members by giving out free breakfast and lunch to more than 200 people who served.
“I think it’s incredibly important that we support veterans in our community not only on days like today but throughout the year,” Mark Murphy, Kretschmar’s Senior Director of Sales said. “They gave so much to us as a country, some veterans gave the ultimate sacrifice, so I think it’s incredibly important that we support them in any way we can.”
Marc’s District Manager Tim Sowers said there was nothing but gratitude and appreciation in the air when service members received their meals.
“It’s a great day to honor them for all their efforts in the military. We appreciate everything they’ve done,” Sowers said. “We just want to give them a chance to put the light on them.”
