Grove City brings back Veterans Day Parade after 50 year hiatus

After 50 years the Grove City Veterans Day Parade is back!

There was a sea of red, white, and blue, along with floats in the Grove City Parade to honor veterans.

The parade with 47 groups taking part began at Broad and Blair streets and continued to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Grove City.

The Grove City VFW decided to restart the parade, saying it's important to let veterans know we care and we remember.

Folks at the parade express their gratitude for all veterans including their dads.

Maryann Jacobs, and brothers Jim and Jacobs expressed their gratitude. All three brought pictures of their dads.

One who served in the Korean war, and the brother's dad served in World War II.

All three explained we all would not have the lives we do today without our veterans who served or who are serving.
For years Grove City held a memorial service on Veterans Day at the cemetery, but the VFW wanted to do more so it restarted its parade.

Fundraising and support from the community helped make this happen.

Paula Thomas brought her grandchildren Charlotte and Decklin saying the parade offers a teaching moment for this event that brings the community together to think about the sacrifices veterans have made.

Paula Thomas whose dad served in the Korean War said, "The kids need to know about the veterans not just in WWII and WWI, but the recent ones too. Everybody who fights for our country they need to know about so that's what we're here for."

Kids who came out to see their grandpa, a Vietnam Veteran, in this parade were excited to be here. "We're thankful for you. Thank You," Trenton, Robby, Morgan, and Madi said.

Grove City and the Volant WFW Posts teamed up with the community to help make this happen

There are hopes the parade will continue next year.

For many who have served this may be the first parade or regonition they have had after they came home from serving our country decades ago.
