The Mahoning County OVI Task Force has revealed the times and locations of two sobriety checkpoints in the county Friday night and Saturday morning.

The first checkpoint will be conducted near the Grace Evangelistic Temple Church on Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown from 10 p.m. until midnight. The second will be conducted on Market Street near Ridge Avenue in Youngstown from 12:30 a.m. until 3 a.m.

These checkpoints will be accompanied by saturation patrols by law enforcement throughout various parts of Mahoning County throughout the weekend in order to keep impaired drivers off the road.

In 1990 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that holding sobriety checkpoints without first notifying drivers would violate the Constitution's provision barring illegal search and seizure.

However, in their ruling, the justices did not specify what they considered adequate notification.

That same year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published recommended procedures for OVI checkpoints, including notifying the media of the planned roadblocks.
