Columbiana County native inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on Thursday
A U.S. Army combat veteran form Columbiana County will be officially inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on Thursday.
A physician, and advocate for veterans, Marshall Bahr will be one of 20 Ohioans honored at the annual induction ceremony in Columbus, recognizing his contributions to healthcare, veterans’ advocacy, and community service following his military career.
A native of Columbiana County, Bahr served as a combat medic in Army Special Operations before transitioning to civilian life, where he has continued to make an impact. His efforts to improving healthcare accessibility and supporting veterans has led to the founding of several initiatives focused on improving the lives of those in need, particularly veterans and underserved communities.
In addition to founding Vanguard Medical Services, which provides primary care to low-income and incarcerated patients, Bahr established Lead The Way Recovery, the first outpatient center in Salem, Ohio, focused on treating substance use disorders, especially for veterans. He is also the Regional Director of Medical/Clinical Operations at BayMark Health Services, one of the nation’s largest addiction treatment centers. Under his leadership, one of his clinics received the 2022 National Clinic of the Year award.
Bahr’s work has extended to founding the Helping Heroes Program, which assists veterans dealing with PTSD and substance abuse. He also partners with the Pat Tillman Foundation to support military families, while his consulting firm, Xterra Health, helps disabled veterans navigate the VA disability claims process.
Outside of his healthcare and advocacy efforts, Bahr played a role in securing funding for a new school in Salem and has been an advocate for addiction treatment in correctional facilities.
At 39 years old, Bahr is one of the youngest inductees in the history of the Hall of Fame.
The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame was established in 1992 by Governor George Voinovich to recognize veterans who have achieved exceptional professional success and made lasting contributions to their communities. To date, 974 veterans have been inducted.
The induction ceremony will be live-streamed on the Ohio Channel at 10:00 a.m. on November 7, 2024.
