Columbiana Co. Parks levy struck down again on fourth attempt
Columbiana County voters were asked Tuesday to consider an additional tax levy for the purpose of use of the Columbiana County Regional Park District.
The levy was shot down by a vote of 28,537 to 16,537.
Voters said no to the 0.1 mill levy for maintaining, operating and improving parks and recreation of the county parks. The levy will bring in an additional $258,000 annually for five years. The levy will cost $4 for each $100,000 of the county auditor's appraised property value.
With the funds, the county would've been able to make repairs to several parks, including the 15 miles of the Greenway Trail, Scenic Vista Park and Hellbenders Bluff in Lisbon.
In March, voters rejected a 0.35-mill levy. This was the fourth attempt at a park levy. The parks have gotten some funding from gas lease bonuses that are expiring.
