Voters in Southington Township approved the proposed 1.9-mill additional continuing levy for providing and maintaining fire and EMS protection to the township.

The vote was 1,008 for, and 774 against.

Fire Chief Scott Bower told 21 News that the majority of levies in the township date back nearly 50 years, leaving the department with a limited budget.

The cost will be $67 a year for each $100,000 of appraised value.

Last year, township voters overwhelmingly rejected a 7-mill levy for the department.
