Voters in Canfield have rejected a $64,190,000 bond levy for Canfield Local Schools for a new middle school on the existing site and renovations to the high school, C.H. Campbell, and Hilltop Elementary schools.

The levy went down with 6,798 votes against the school levy, and 5,523 for the levy.

The existing middle school building is 102 years old and requires extensive repairs and maintenance, according to the district.

Canfield voters have twice rejected previous levy efforts, in 2023 a 7.5 mill/$104.9 million bond levy and in 2022, $107.8 million bond levy was voted down.

“While we’re disappointed in the outcome, we respect our community’s decision," said Canfield superintendent Joe Knoll. "The needs of our facilities remain a priority for our district, and we will continue to explore solutions that align with our community’s expectations and financial responsibilities."

In a provided statement, Knoll added that the Board will continue to have discussions over the coming months to discuss a plan that can
address these needs in a financially sustainable manner.

The levy would have homeowners $10.79 per month per $100,000 of appraised property value per the Mahoning County Auditor's Office.
