Pitched tents and RVs caught the attention of two township zoning departments in Mahoning County. Half of the property lies in Ellsworth township, the other in Jackson Township.

The Ellsworth Township zoning inspector said this is a safety concern, which is why he's issued a notice that the people there will have to clear out.

For weeks, the Ellsworth Township zoning inspector has been waiting for these tents and RVs to be removed.

“It looked like somebody was staying on the property that was vacant. No sanitary, no water,” said Wayne Sarna, zoning inspector for Ellsworth township.

Both Jackson township, and Ellsworth township zoning departments directed the RVs on the property to be removed within three days of the notice. Jackson Township zoning department gave the property owner a notice Oct.8. Ellsworth Township zoning department gave one Oct. 8. Only the RV on Jackson Township was removed.

“There's no residential structure out there. They're not living in a residential structure, living in an RV, recreational vehicle, which is a violation,” said Sarna.

Residents have been calling Sarna about the property. Some were worried the property owners are creating a health hazard.

“There's no water, there's no sanitary facilities out there, so it's a concern to the neighbors. It’s going to lead to health department complaints,” said Sarna.

Residents also complained about debris. Sarna said the owners have lit a campfire on the property.

Since the items weren't removed, Sarna reached out to the prosecutor. If they do not remove the items on the property, the township is looking at taking legal action.
