The first few of several signs that will display the name of what will become Austintown’s newest grocery store have been posted.

Crews have installed signs along the gas station island canopy of the Meijer convenience store that’s in front of the supercenter being built along Mahoning Avenue, just east of Fitch Boulevard where Austintown Middle School once stood.

The larger letters spelling “Meijer” have yet to be installed on the supercenter.

Meijer has yet to share an official opening day for the store but it’s expected to be 12 to 18 months after construction that began in April.

Plans call for a traffic light to be installed at the Mahoning Avenue entrance to the store.

Meijer purchased the property across from Chick-fil-A back in 2016.

The old middle school was closed in 2007 and then demolished in 2017.

Meijer has local stores in Howland and Boardman.
