Alliance plant closing to throw 68 people out of work
A manufacturing plant in Alliance is shutting down permanently, according to a letter sent to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, putting 68 people out of work.
PPC Flexible Packaging announced the upcoming closure of its facility located at 9465 Edison St NE, effective January 3, 2025, according to a notice filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, also known as the WARN Act.
The company says the closure is due to market conditions and business considerations.
None of the workers belong to a union and they have no right to bump other less senior workers from other positions. However, the company anticipates that some employees may be offered opportunities to transfer to other company locations.
The Alliance location is one of ten facilities in seven states operated by PPC, headquartered in Illinois.
Following the January closing, employees will remain on the Alliance site to assist with the winding down and decommissioning process. The final separations are anticipated to be completed by March 28, 2025.
