Brown & Moreno campaign in Mahoning Valley in last-minute push

Election Day is right around the corner, slated for next Tuesday, November 5.

Several important races in Ohio are drawing voters to the polls and keeping national eyes on the Buckeye State. 

A primary focus in Ohio will be the U.S. Senate Race, with both Sherrod Brown & Bernie Moreno working to earn voter's support. 

Whoever wins the race next week could decide if Democrats or Republicans control the U.S. Senate. The current polls have the two candidates neck and neck, with Moreno having a 0.8% average lead, looking at more than 30 national polls. 

With vastly different political views, both Brown and Moreno are strategically using former presidents to gain momentum. Moreno is endorsed by former President Donald Trump and welcomed Donald Trump Jr. on the campaign trail. Brown is working with former President Barack Obama.

"Our goal here in Mahoning County is to take 50% or more for Bernie," explained Tom McCabe, Chairman of the Mahoning County Republican Party. "I think we're on track of doing that and I think events like this help," he told 21 News at Wednesday's Lincoln Day Dinner in Youngstown. 

Moreno, along with South Carolina Senator Tim Scott made a stop at Mahoning County's Lincoln Day Dinner event, where they spoke on the importance of voting red next week.

"We got a lot of energy," Moreno told 21 News. "We did 6 events yesterday and we did 5 events today. We're going to continue to have that stamina and energy for the rest of the week."

Sherrod Brown has held the U.S. Senator position since being elected in 2006. Brown campaigned Tuesday at the Youngstown Union Hall of Teamsters Local 377 as he seeks his fourth term. He also stopped in Lordstown earlier this month to speak with unioned autoworkers.

Both candidates focused on earning votes in the Mahoning Valley as the race for Senate draws closer.
