Two charged in Clingan Road crash, brawl in Poland Township last week
More details are being released from the October 22 investigation of two vehicles that crashed into a home in the 6700 block of Clingan Road in Poland Township.
According to the police report, the 18-year-old driver of the gray Honda – William Teague – told police he was being chased and forced off the road by a maroon Jeep, whom he said did not know.
The 23-year-old driver of the maroon Jeep – Anthony Flores – told Poland Township Police that he and an 18-year-old passenger were on their way to play basketball at a nearby church when the passenger asked to stop and talk with the driver of the Honda about something personal.
The police report states Flores and the passenger met at the church to allegedly buy shoes for $200 from Teague.
According to the report, the passenger returned to the Jeep and told Flores that the driver of the Honda had taken his money without giving him the shoes; he also alleged that Teague said he wanted an additional $100 for the shoes and allegedly had a gun.
The report states Flores chased the Honda in an attempt to get his passenger's money back.
The report states police reviewed the footage from the church, which allegedly shows the maroon Jeep arrived at just before 6 p.m. The gray/silver SUV pulled in and the passenger got out at 6:46 pm. The report said it appears that disagreement happened, and the SUV took off out of the parking lot, with the Jeep chasing, driving through the churchyard.
The crash happened just before 7 p.m. The two vehicles struck the house and front porch, which damaged the foundation.
Witnesses told police that the occupants of the crashed cars were fighting in the yard. One witness also told police that one of the suspects ran around behind the house and then returned.
The police report states it found a firearm in the backyard.
Teague was charged in Struthers Municipal Court on Monday with Robbery (F3), while Flores was charged with Felonious Assault (F2). The case is still being investigated and additional charges may be added.
Both were arraigned in Struthers court Monday, with Teague scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on November 1, and Flores due back in court on December 16.
