High School Students get a taste of stock trading at Junior Achievement's Stock Market Challenge
High school students across the Mahoning Valley got a taste of life on Wall Street during Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio's annual Stock Market Challenge at Youngstown State University on Friday.
Eighty students from various schools including Lakeview, McDonald, NEO Impact Academy, David Anderson and Mineral Ridge all participated in the event in YSU's Williamson Hall Friday.
The students built their portfolios using $500,000 in capital and bought and sold stocks with the help of local business professionals acting as floor traders.
Throughout the event, newsletters and alerts were distributed detailing positive and negative stories that impacted the market including bankruptcies, scandals, mergers, acquisitions, natural disasters and major business achievements.
The winning teams are as follows:
- 1st Place: Retail Apes from Lakeview High School (Gage Woofter, Mason Wheeler, Griffin Oravec)
- 2nd Place: Team Blue from Lakeview High School (Ben Patrick, Ben Schmidt and Mike Nigrin)
- 3rd Place: Impact C from NEO Impact Academy (Kenneth Anderson, Isiah Santiago, Hunter Wellman, Christos Davis)
