Niles Water Department asks residents to fill out survey on water lines

The "Get the Lead Out" initiative was created by the Federal Government to help remove lead service lines around the country and reduce exposure to lead.

Lead exposure can be very harmful to both children and adults. The CDC has released articles about the symptoms of lead in adults and information about how to prevent lead poisoning in children

Niles joined this initiative this past August, stating that they will take the steps necessary to identify lead service pipes and educate the public about them with the help of the U.S. EPA.

The Niles Water Department is taking the first step in identifying lead service lines.

They are sending out door hangers to all customers with information about the "Get the Lead Out" initiative and an invitation to complete a survey about customers' home service line material.

The department recommends that everyone who receives these door hangers complete the survey to aid in efforts towards compliance. The data gathered in this survey will be used to create a map of water service lines materials.

Participants may scan the QR code on the door hanger, call 1-800-674-7961, or follow this link to access the survey.
