People who saw the Youngstown Police Bomb Squad truck in southern Columbiana County earlier this week may have wondered why.

 YPD Lt. Mohammad Awad tells 21 News they got a call on Wednesday from the Salineville Police Department that someone found what appeared to be a stick of dynamite.

Awad says the explosive was found as an old industrial building was being cleaned out.

According to Awad, experts on the squad don’t believe it was dynamite, but more likely black powder that may have been in the building for decades.

The explosive was taken to a nearby field where experts blew it up.
