State Troopers have charged an Akron man accused of leading them on an hour-long, high-speed pursuit that started in Mahoning County Wednesday afternoon and traveled through two other counties.

Forty-one-year-old Larry Finch is in the Portage County Jail awaiting a Thursday court appearance on charges of reckless operation and driving with a suspended license.

He could face other charges resulting from the chase which began before 3 p.m. Wednesday when a State Trooper tried to pull over a pickup truck speeding east on Interstate 76 in Milton Township.

In Austintown, the truck used a crossover to switch directions, with the Trooper following west into Portage County at speeds up to 110 miles per hour.

The patrol broke off the chase after the truck sideswiped a tractor-trailer.

Shortly thereafter, deputies from the Portage County Sheriff's Office tried to pull the truck over on Waterloo Road in Portage County leading to a second pursuit.

During the pursuit, deputies successfully deployed spiked stop sticks, deflating the left front tire.

Troopers rejoined the pursuit, which ended after deputies blocked the truck along Route 532 in Mogadore.

The driver and a passenger were taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation. Suspected narcotics were found in the vehicle.
