A woman has died of suicide following a standoff in Austintown on Friday that police say "didn't go the way they wanted."

Our 21 News crew on scene saw Austintown Police Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol cruisers, as well as an ambulance on Pinecrest Avenue responding to the standoff.

Captain Tom Collins told 21 News the standoff stemmed from a woman in the house with a weapon. A two-year-old was also in the home, but was escorted out safely.

Police tried to negotiate with the woman to come out of the house, but were unsuccessful. A police report from Austintown PD says the woman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The standoff started just before noon Friday when police received a call reporting a woman shooting herself in the head with a two-year-old present in the home.

The bomb squad, as well as a tactical vehicle also showed up to the scene just before 2 p.m. Our crew on scene saw SWAT officers attempting to contact someone in the house via phone calls and texts.

A drone had also been deployed and was flown into the home after officers broke a window.
