Mercer County woman, 22, killed in crash while driving wrong way on I-79

State Police say a 22-year-old Mercer County woman was killed Sunday morning after her car crashed while driving the wrong way along Interstate 79 in New Vernon Township.

Austyn Bayuk of Clarks Mills was pronounced dead at the scene after her Toyota Yaris went off the highway and struck a guide rail near the Route 358 overpass at 3 a.m.  Police say Bayuk had been driving north in the southbound lanes at the time of the crash.

According to her obituary, Bayuk was a 2020 graduate of Commodore Perry High School and had studied at Kent State University.
