At a special meeting of the Mahoning County Board of Elections Wednesday, a group calling itself the Mahoning County election integrity committee brought more than two dozen registration challenges before the board.

One involved nine family members at one single family home.
The woman living there said several of those relatives have since relocated.

"Say they moved and they got a new address and they just didn't register with us, then they'll just vote provisionally and we'll vet it at that time," said board chair David Betras.

The board said while it appreciated the group's efforts, none of its 25 challenges revealed any evidence of fraud.

"All it shows is no election is perfect, no voter roll is perfect," said Betras. "This is a human system run by humans and we all know humans are capable of making mistakes."

Election director Tom McCabe says there are almost always explanations for these types of issues.

"It's part of the process of a registered voter's right to challenge another voter," McCabe said. "When you see issues where you have two families living in the same house, it sometimes does look a little suspicious."

McCabe also used the meeting as an opportunity to remind you that you can always be confident in your vote and each election running smoothly.

"Ohio runs great elections," he said. "We have so many layers, checks and balances within the system, equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats, cameras, backup systems, everything is double-checked."
