A Youngstown man decided to help those in need by purchasing over $2,300 worth of Kentucky Fried Chicken to donate and feed those who are hungry in the Valley.
21 News caught up with retired nurse Ken Mains, who told us he always prays for the hungry and felt like it was time to take action and do his part to help.
"When I say my prayers in the morning, I pray for the hungry people, and I got smacked on the back of the head by God who said 'well do something about it, son,' and this is what it led to," Mains said.
Mains decided he'd help by going with his neighbor Tricia Williams to KFC in Austintown and purchasing about $2,300 worth of meals to bring to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Williams described how she helped Mains make this plan come together.
"We loaded the bottled water, we unloaded, we reconfigured, I went to work for Kentucky Fried Chicken today and I had to assemble boxes ... and then we loaded, got here helped unloaded and now we're here," Williams said.
Mains says he has donated in the past, but it's usually monetary donations and he wanted to help the hungry this time.
"Now that I'm seeing smiles come out of this, I'm pretty happy about it," Mains said.
