The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is set to begin work on the replacement of the East Washington Street Bridge in New Castle on Monday, October 7.

Work will begin at approximately 6 a.m. Monday weather permitting and will consist of bridge reconstruction, utility reconstruction, approach roadway work and minor signal improvements.

During this time, the bridge, which carries East Washington Street over the Neshannock Creek between East Street and Croton Avenue will be closed to traffic around the clock.

Work is expected to last until June of 2027.

During construction, there will be detours for cars and trucks as well as for pedestrians. These detours are as follows:

Cars and trucks traveling north of the bridge will take east Washington Street to North Jefferson Street from the bridge. From there they will turn left onto Jefferson Street, left onto Grove Avenue, bear right onto Neal Street, bear left onto Taylor Street and follow Taylor Street to East Washington Street.

Cars and trucks traveling south of the bridge follow that same detour in reverse order.

Meanwhile, pedestrians and bicyclists will be detoured via East Street, East North Street and Croton Avenue.
