Two Cleveland men face charges after investigators say they crashed their car while trying to flee from Boardman Police after allegedly shoplifting $1,400 worth of goods.

An employee of the store at Applewood Commons called police Tuesday evening to report that two men left the store without paying for two shopping carts filled with clothing.

When an officer pulled his cruiser behind the suspected getaway car at the nearby Raising Cane’s restaurant, the Volkswagen Jetta pulled away, striking a light pole at the drive-thru, according to police.

The officer says the driver then tried to escape by driving up a grassy embankment but got stuck while doing so.

Christopher Wells and Daishawn Ransaw, both 27-years-old, were arrested.

In addition to finding eight Carhart winter hats and other clothing items in the back seat of the car, police also found a one-year-old child.

Wells was arrested for theft, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, endangering children, and OVI. Ransaw was arrested for theft. Stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the business.

Both men were taken to jail.
