A bridge connecting East Liverpool to West Virginia will remain closed at least until the end of the weekend.

According to a post on the Newell Bridge and Railway Company's Facebook Page, the Newell Toll Bridge was slated to reopen on Thursday, October 3, but is still facing setbacks preventing that from happening.

The post states that work on the bridge will continue throughout the weekend in the hopes of having it reopened by Monday, October 7.

"The work that is being done is something that has never been done before on this bridge. When doing a project like this, it's hard not to be optimistic and place shorter time periods to complete, but in reality takes much longer with all the unknown factors that are present," the post reads.

The bridge has been closed since September 17 and was supposed to be closed for one week. However, various setback caused the closure to last longer than expected.

The bridge was first built in 1904 and is inspected every year.
