Farrell man wanted for violent 2019 confrontation arrested across from Youngstown Police headquarters

A Farrell man, on the run for nearly six years after a violent confrontation in that city, has been captured in Youngstown.

Police say they arrested 37-year-old Eugene Bowens on Tuesday after someone spotted him standing across the street from YPD headquarters on West Boardman Street.

In addition to local arrest warrants, Farrell Police have been looking for him since January 21, 2019, when he eluded officers chasing him following a domestic violence incident on French Street.

It was at that address that a woman told officers that Bowens repeatedly punched her, choked her, and stomped on her head several times during an argument.

A child who was there reported that Bowens snatched a phone out of her hand before she could call the police.

The woman said after Bowens took a TV and tablet out of the home, he began driving away in her SUV, attempting to run her over.  The victim, whose face was, cut, red, and swollen, was hospitalized.

The stolen SUV was spotted by Shenango Township Police, who chased it until it reached Youngstown where the pursuit ended because of concerns over public safety.

Bowens, who remained free until his arrest in Youngstown on Tuesday, faces charges in Mercer County including, robbery, car theft, strangulation, receiving stolen property, and assault.

As of Thursday, Bowens remained in the Mahoning County jail.
