SLIDESHOW: Calcutta Fire Department collecting goods for Hurricane Helene victims
As members of the Calcutta Fire Department assist victims of Hurricane Helene in Florida, back here in the Valley other firefighters are asking for donations for items needed by storm victims in Asheville, North Carolina.
The fire station at 15445 Pugh Rd, Calcutta will be staffed from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday to collect goods that will be shipped to the storm-ravaged community.
Needed items include bottled water, non-perishables, feminine products, hygiene products, formula, diapers, wipes, pet food, clothes (all sizes) cleaning supplies, disposable plates, and utensils.
Donations may also be dropped off in a black box trailer parked at the fire station.
According to a post on the department's Facebook page, a team of firefighters was deployed to Dixie County to help Florida Task Force 1 with secondary searches and assist Dixie County Fire and EMS crews with helping residents near Horseshoe Beach.
You can take a look at how those search and rescue efforts are going in the slideshow above.
