The owners of the Shenango Valley Mall are moving forward with plans to demolish and redevelop the property.

A demolition permit from developer and mall owner Butterfli Holdings LLC was filed Friday with the City of Hermitage. The company purchased the mall in 2022.

Once the city verifies that everything is in order, the permit will be approved and Butterfli Holdings can open bidding for the demolition work.

According to Hermitage Business & Community Development Director Mark Longietti, the bids should be returned in mid-October. Demolition can begin soon after that, though an official date has not been set.

After demolishing the building, the city plans to work with Butterfli Holdings to redevelop the property into a mixed-use area with individual storefronts. That includes restaurants, retail stores, and open spaces to hold community events.

The mall permanently closed on May 31st after years of decline.
