A Struthers man with an 18-year criminal history, awaiting sentencing for stealing thousands of dollars worth of postage stamps, has been charged with more crimes.

Thirty-seven-year-old Michael Mele, accused of cashing two phony checks worth $1,500 in Struthers last month, was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on Wednesday.

Mele is scheduled to be sentenced next week in federal court for theft of government property.

According to U.S. District Court records, Mele stole more than $13,000 worth of postage stamps during a two-year period in Lawrence and other western Pennsylvania counties.

Mahoning County Court records show that since 2006, Mele has been convicted 10 times on charges including cocaine possession, credit card misuse, passing bad checks, forgery, receiving stolen property, theft, and grand theft.
