New challenge for drivers at Howland's Diverging Diamond construction site
Drivers in Trumbull County should be prepared for significant traffic disruptions beginning Thursday evening as a major ramp closure takes effect at the State Route 46 and State Route 82 diverging diamond interchange.
The Ohio Department of Transportation announced that the ramp from SR 46 south to SR 82 east will be closed through late spring 2025. A detour will be provided via SR 82 west to Elm Road to SR 82 east.
This closure is part of a larger construction project that has been underway for over a year to improve safety and traffic flow at this busy intersection. The project includes various lane restrictions and other closures on SR 46 and SR 82, which are expected to continue through November 2024.
The diverging diamond interchange, a type of intersection designed to improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents, is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2026.
ODOT officials urge drivers to plan and seek alternative routes during the construction period.
