Youngstown American Legion post will remain open following charter revocation

Last year, 21 News reported on an American Legion post in Youngstown that was in jeopardy of closing after it lost its charter. Now, we've learned that post will remain open.

American Legion Post 472 on E. Indianola Avenue in Youngstown was in jeopardy of closing after it received a letter saying its charter had been revoked and it must close back in 2023.

We were told mismanagement and theft of funds from a former leader led to that legal battle. Now, that legal battle has been won after an investigation into the post's finances.

When the battle was won, the post was put on probation for a year. Since then, it started from scratch and rebuilt itself from the ground up. The post has three months of probation left.

"I feel very strongly about this post. I feel very strongly about the people who belonged to this post. They're my family. We stand together in good times and bad. Through hardship, these are people who make us Youngstown," said post commander David Shears.

The post currently has 150 active members and is always looking for more.
